  CASE 2
SOURCING OF A GASOLINE ENGINE WITH A MODIFIED SHAFT

The case
Use a gasoline Chinese engine rather than an European one, with modification of the shaft, for the production in Spain of a garden pump, the target being an important cost reduction in a very short delay.

Solution
Selection of a Chinese gasoline engine manufacturer, flexible enough to modify some components in a very short delay (25 days).

The process
After a pre selection of four Chinese factories, one has been selected, among other points, for its ability to react quickly to the requirements of our customer.
A sample of the existing engine have been sent by air for test in Europe. After acceptance of the quality, several drawings were sent to the factory for modification of the shaft (necessary change for the production of the final product in Spain, a garden pump).
A prototype of the shaft have been sent within a week. After test in Spain, a new modification was required. Ten days later, the factory could produce the first container of engines with modified shaft.
Total time of the process: 25 days.
In order to respect the requested timing, the project manager of AsiaCost have been in daily contact with the factory engineers and has spent five day at the production site.

Results
Time to finalize the project : 25 days.
Cost : thanks to AsiaCost, the total cost has been reduced by 45% compared to the use of a European engine and the production in Europe of the special shaft. This project has created a strong demand in Europe for the final product (the pump).
